Tec Italy Shampoo Recalled Over Bacterial Contamination Risk

A batch of shampoo under the Tec Italy brand has been recalled after it tested positive for a potentially harmful bacteria, according to a statement released by Henkel earlier this week.

The issue was flagged after routine lab testing picked up traces of Klebsiella oxytoca in the product — a bacteria that can lead to skin, eye, or respiratory infections, especially in people with weaker immune systems.

Henkel’s Mexico division, which manufactures the product, has voluntarily recalled 1,068 bottles of Tec Italy Totale Shampoo. The product comes in a green 1-liter bottle (33.81 oz) and is marked with lot number 1G27542266 and UPC 7501438375850.

The shampoo had been shipped to New York and California, and Henkel warned it may have ended up in other states as well. It wasn’t just sold in stores — some retailers also sold it directly to customers.

As of now, there haven’t been any reports of people getting sick or injured from using it, but Henkel says anyone who used the shampoo and feels off should see a doctor just to be safe.

Customers who bought one of the affected bottles should stop using it and bring it back to wherever they bought it for a full refund.

Henkel apologized for the issue, saying they’re trying to minimize the hassle for customers. They also confirmed the recall is being handled with the knowledge of the FDA.
