RIYADH – Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Sunday, March 30, 2025, will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr, following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon earlier this evening.
Eid Al Fitr is celebrated on the 1st of Shawwal, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Islamic months are either 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon sighting. With the crescent sighted today, Ramadan will end after 29 days this year.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court had called on Muslims across the kingdom to search for the crescent moon on the 29th night of Ramadan, with both citizens and observatories contributing to the effort. Tonight’s confirmed sighting sets the stage for Eid celebrations to begin on Sunday.
To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has declared a four-day Eid holiday for the private and non-profit sectors, starting Sunday, March 30, and ending Wednesday, April 2. Work will resume on Thursday, April 3.
When combined with the standard Friday-Saturday weekend, private sector employees will enjoy a six-day holiday, giving families and communities extended time to celebrate.
