Emmy-winning actress, writer, and producer Quinta Brunson has filed for divorce from her husband Kevin Jay Anik, bringing an end to their three-year marriage. The Abbott Elementary creator submitted the paperwork on March 19, 2025, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
According to court documents obtained by People and Entertainment Weekly, the couple had a postnuptial agreement in place outlining the division of their assets. Brunson also requested that both parties cover their own legal fees, and no spousal support was requested by either side. The exact date of their separation was not disclosed in the filing, and the couple does not have any children together.
Brunson, 34, has kept much of her personal life private over the years. She and Anik, a sales executive, were married in a quiet ceremony in October 2021. The couple rarely appeared in public together, and Brunson seldom spoke about their relationship in interviews, opting instead to focus on her skyrocketing career.
Despite the personal change, Brunson’s professional life remains on fire. Her hit show Abbott Elementary is currently in its fourth season and continues to earn critical praise for its heartfelt, comedic portrayal of public school teachers. The show, inspired by Brunson’s own mother—a former teacher—has become one of ABC’s biggest successes in recent years, winning multiple Emmys, Golden Globes, and Peabody Awards.
Brunson herself made history in 2022 as the first Black woman to win the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series, solidifying her status as a major force in television.
While fans were surprised by the news of her divorce, many have expressed support and admiration for Brunson’s continued focus on her work. With her signature humor, creativity, and relatability still at the center of her career, she shows no signs of slowing down.
