Michail Antonio Begins Rehabilitation in Dubai

West Ham United's striker, Michail Antonio, has commenced a significant phase of his recovery in Dubai after sustaining a serious leg injury in a car accident last December. The 34-year-old footballer underwent surgery following the incident and is now focusing on rehabilitation efforts to regain his fitness.

The Accident and Initial Recovery

In December 2024, Antonio was involved in a car crash in Epping, Essex, which resulted in a broken leg. He was airlifted to the hospital and underwent surgery to address the injury. Following the operation, Antonio spent the Christmas period recovering at home and made occasional visits to West Ham's training ground.

Rehabilitation in Dubai

To advance his recovery, Antonio has traveled to Dubai, where he will engage in a specialized rehabilitation program until February 20. This phase aims to enhance his physical condition and expedite his return to the sport. The decision to conduct this part of his rehabilitation in Dubai aligns with West Ham's arrangements with a rehabilitation center in the region, which has previously assisted other players.

Uncertain Future

Antonio's contract with West Ham is set to expire at the end of the current season. The club is deliberating whether to extend his contract to support his full recovery. A final decision regarding his future with the team is expected later in the season.

Antonio's Message to Supporters

Following his discharge from the hospital, Antonio expressed profound gratitude to the medical teams, emergency services, and fans for their unwavering support. He acknowledged the fragility of life and emphasized his appreciation for the overwhelming encouragement he received during this challenging time.
