The much-awaited Krrish 4, starring Hrithik Roshan, is facing a significant shift in its creative team, leading to speculation about the film’s future. The iconic superhero franchise, which has been a fan favorite since Koi... Mil Gaya (2003), is undergoing major changes as veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has decided to step away from directing the upcoming installment.
Rakesh Roshan Bows Out as Director
For the first time since the franchise began, Krrish 4 will not be directed by Rakesh Roshan. The veteran filmmaker, who helmed all the previous films in the series, has reportedly taken a backseat, stating that it is time for a fresh perspective to take over. While he remains closely involved in the project as a mentor and producer, he has opted not to lead the film from the director’s chair.
Roshan has acknowledged that filmmaking is constantly evolving and believes that a new creative mind can bring a modern approach to India’s most popular superhero franchise. This decision aligns with his desire to ensure that Krrish 4 meets the high expectations of today's audiences.
Siddharth Anand and Marflix Exit the Project
Adding to the film’s challenges, director Siddharth Anand and his production banner, Marflix, have reportedly withdrawn from the project. Anand, best known for directing action-packed blockbusters, was initially in discussions to be involved with Krrish 4, but creative differences and financial concerns seem to have played a role in his exit.
One of the primary reasons for Marflix stepping away appears to be the film’s increasing budget, which has reportedly escalated to an estimated ₹700 crore. Given the evolving market conditions and the need for high-end VFX and action sequences, such a massive budget poses a risk, making it difficult for production houses to commit.
Challenges and the Search for a New Director
With Rakesh Roshan stepping back and Siddharth Anand's exit, Krrish 4 now faces the challenge of finding a new director who can do justice to the film's legacy. The franchise has always been ahead of its time in Indian cinema, pushing boundaries with visual effects and storytelling. However, to meet the high expectations of fans, the new director will need to balance nostalgia with innovation.
Despite these roadblocks, the project remains a priority for Hrithik Roshan and the team. The script is still being refined, and the search for a suitable director is ongoing. The makers are reportedly considering several options, ensuring that whoever takes the helm can elevate Krrish 4 to an international standard.
What This Means for the Krrish Franchise
The Krrish series has been instrumental in shaping the superhero genre in Bollywood. The franchise, which began with Koi... Mil Gaya, evolved into Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013), both of which were massive successes at the box office. The story of Rohit Mehra, his son Krishna, and the superhero legacy has captivated audiences for two decades.
With the shift in direction, Krrish 4 has the opportunity to redefine itself for a new generation of viewers. If executed well, this film could set a new benchmark for superhero movies in India and compete with international productions.
