Family Man 3 Actor Found Dead Near Guwahati Waterfall, Family Claims Murder

GUWAHATI, India — Rohit Basfore, a 25-year-old actor who recently filmed scenes for the upcoming web series Family Man 3, was found dead on April 27 near a waterfall in Assam’s Garbhanga forest, a lush, rugged spot on the outskirts of Guwahati. The discovery has rocked the local film scene and sparked a tense investigation, with police calling it a possible drowning while Basfore’s family insists it was cold-blooded murder.

Basfore, a rising star who’d returned to his hometown from Mumbai just months ago, headed out for a picnic with nine friends around noon on that Sunday. He was in good spirits, his family said, planning a quick day trip to the waterfalls, a popular haunt for locals. But by evening, his phone went silent, unreachable after 12:30 p.m. Panic set in. Hours later, a friend called with grim news: Basfore had been found near the Jalukpaham waterfall, lifeless. Rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police from the Rani Police Outpost were alerted around 4 p.m. and reached the scene by 4:30. With help from the State Disaster Response Force, they pulled Basfore’s body from the water by 6:30 p.m. Initial reports pointed to an accidental fall into the waterfall. Kamrup’s superintendent of police, Ranjan Bhuyan, told reporters the case looked like a drowning, pending a post-mortem report. The body was sent to Gauhati Medical College Hospital for autopsy the next day.

But the autopsy results, delivered on April 28, threw a wrench into the accident theory. Doctors found multiple injuries—wounds on Basfore’s head, face, and other parts of his body. These marks, described as severe by officials, prompted a deeper probe. The family, already skeptical, seized on the findings, rejecting the idea of a simple misstep. They claimed Basfore, who couldn’t swim, was lured to the remote spot and killed.

The family’s allegations zero in on four men: Ranjit Basfore, Ashok Basfore, Dharam Basfore, and a gym owner named Amardeep, who reportedly invited Basfore to the outing. They say Rohit had clashed with the trio weeks earlier over a parking dispute, a seemingly petty spat that escalated into death threats. Amardeep, they allege, played a role in setting up the fatal trip. Adding fuel to their claims, all four men have vanished since the incident, leaving police scrambling to track them down.

Investigators haven’t ruled out foul play. The autopsy wounds, coupled with the family’s account, have shifted the case toward a possible homicide. A police official, speaking on April 28, confirmed the injuries and said the four accused are on the run, complicating the manhunt. The post-mortem report is still under review to pinpoint the exact cause of death.

Basfore’s death has sent ripples through Assam’s tight-knit entertainment circle. Known for roles in web series like Eken Babu and films like Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga, he was poised for a breakout with Family Man 3, the Manoj Bajpayee-led thriller set to stream on Amazon Prime. Co-star Bajpayee took to social media on April 29, posting a brief condolence: “May God bless your soul with peace Rohit Basfore!! Gone too soon! Om shanti.”

The investigation continues, with police combing the Garbhanga forest for clues and chasing leads on the missing suspects. Basfore’s family, grieving and furious, is demanding answers, convinced their son’s death was no accident. For now, the waterfall—a place once known for picnics and laughter—stands as a grim reminder of a life cut short.

The case remains open, with no arrests made as of April 29. The post-mortem report is expected to clarify the cause of death in the coming days.
