Expedia and Visit Oman Partner to Digitally Transform Omani Tourism

The National Travel Operator, Visit Oman, and Expedia Group, one of the world’s largest travel technology companies, have entered into a strategic agreement to integrate Omani tour and activity providers onto Expedia’s global platform.

The agreement – signed at the world’s leading travel trade show, ITB Berlin, last week – will enable the integration through API technology and launch a global digital marketing campaign targeting travelers from the US, UK, and the Middle East. This marks a significant step in Visit Oman’s strategy to enhance digital distribution and connectivity, aligning with Oman’s National Tourism Strategy 2040.

Expedia's Role in Boosting Omani Tourism

Expedia’s advanced digital marketing capabilities and global reach will bring Oman’s diverse tourism offerings to millions of travelers worldwide. The company has expanded partnerships with Omani hotels, resorts, and tour operators, providing exclusive deals and curated travel packages.

Shabib al Maamari, Managing Director of Visit Oman, emphasized the importance of leveraging Expedia’s platform:

“By integrating Omani travel experiences with Expedia’s technology, we are making Oman’s rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes accessible to a global audience. This collaboration strengthens our visibility as a premier destination while empowering local tourism providers and SMEs by placing Omani offerings on the global digital map.”

Government Initiatives Driving Growth

The Omani government continues investing in tourism through its Vision 2040 strategy, focusing on digital transformation and sustainable tourism growth. Key developments include:

  • New Tourism Projects: Expansion of resorts and eco-tourism initiatives in Dhofar and the Musandam Peninsula.

  • Enhanced Infrastructure: Muscat International Airport’s upgrades and new flight routes increasing accessibility.

  • Visa Reforms: Eased visa regulations for multiple nationalities, encouraging longer stays and repeat visits.

Jennifer Andre, Vice President of Business Development at Expedia Group Media Solutions, highlighted the partnership’s impact:

“By adding Omani activities onto our platform and creating impactful marketing campaigns to drive demand, we are helping to connect local tourism providers to the right traveler, at the right time, boosting awareness and economic value to the destination.”

Key Attractions Gaining Popularity

Expedia data reveals a growing interest in Oman’s unique attractions, including:

  • Wahiba Sands: A top destination for desert adventures and Bedouin experiences.

  • Jebel Akhdar: Known for its scenic mountain landscapes and luxury retreats.

  • Salalah: A monsoon-season paradise attracting nature lovers and adventure seekers.

Outlook for Oman’s Tourism Industry

With the combined efforts of travel industry leaders like Expedia and government-backed tourism initiatives, Oman is set to become a key global travel destination. The seamless integration of local experiences onto a world-class digital platform ensures Oman remains competitive in the evolving global travel landscape.

As more travelers discover Oman’s unparalleled beauty and rich history, this partnership is expected to drive significant economic impact, create new job opportunities, and further strengthen Oman’s position as a premier destination in the Middle East.
