Dubai’s RTA Introduces ‘Rail Bus’ for Faster and Smarter Public Transport

February 10, 2025 – Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled an innovative ‘Rail Bus’ system, designed to offer fast, efficient, and sustainable public transportation. This cutting-edge initiative is part of Dubai’s ongoing efforts to enhance urban mobility and reduce congestion on the city’s roads.

What Is the Rail Bus?

The newly introduced Rail Bus is a hybrid transport system that combines the speed and efficiency of a train with the flexibility of a bus.

Key Features of the Rail Bus:

  • Capacity: Can accommodate 40 passengers per trip.
  • Speed: Operates at 100 km/h, making it a faster alternative to regular buses.
  • Eco-Friendly: Designed with low-emission technology, reducing environmental impact.
  • Smart Connectivity: Equipped with AI-powered navigation systems and real-time route optimization.
  • Dedicated Tracks: While capable of running on regular roads, the system will have designated lanes for uninterrupted travel.

How Will It Benefit Dubai’s Public Transport?

The introduction of the Rail Bus aligns with Dubai’s smart city vision and is expected to:
Reduce Travel Time – Faster speeds will shorten commutes, making public transport more attractive for residents and tourists.
Ease Road Congestion – Dedicated lanes will help reduce traffic jams, especially in high-density areas.
Improve Sustainability – The system contributes to Dubai’s 2050 Net Zero Carbon goal by cutting down on fuel-based transport emissions.
Enhance Passenger Comfort – The buses will offer spacious seating, digital infotainment, and high-speed Wi-Fi.

Where Will the Rail Bus Operate?

The RTA has announced that the first phase of the Rail Bus system will be launched on high-demand routes, including:
Sheikh Zayed Road Corridor – Connecting key business and residential districts.
Dubai Marina – Downtown Dubai – A major route catering to both residents and tourists.
Expo City – Dubai International Airport – Providing faster airport transfers.

Additional expansion plans will be considered based on the success of the initial rollout.

When Will the Rail Bus Be Available?

The pilot phase is set to launch in Q2 2025, with a full-scale implementation planned by 2026. RTA will conduct extensive testing to ensure safety, efficiency, and seamless integration into the city’s public transport network.
