DEWA to become first AI native utility in the world

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the boss of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has kicked off a big plan to make DEWA the first utility company in the world to fully use artificial intelligence (AI) in everything it does. He shared this exciting news during a four-day event called GenAI Week, which DEWA organized to talk about how AI can change the way they work. The event brought together DEWA’s experts and people from top AI companies like Microsoft, IBM, ServiceNow, and DataRobot to explore how AI can make things better.

GenAI Week Activities and Focus

GenAI Week took place at DEWA’s main office and included a conference where they explained how AI will fit into every part of DEWA’s operations and services. There were workshops, group talks, and fun lectures about things like deep learning, AI brain-like systems, and automation. DEWA also shared its step-by-step plan to use AI to boost productivity, make smarter decisions, simplify paperwork, and create cool new services for everyone involved.

Vision and Alignment with UAE’s Strategy

Al Tayer said this plan follows the dream of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to make the UAE a world leader in AI. He wants the country to use AI to speed up progress in government work.

“We’re thrilled to start this journey to become the world’s first AI-native utility,” Al Tayer said.
“This will keep DEWA ahead of the game in tech and help us find new ways to grow sustainably in energy and water. We’re building AI into everything we do to work smarter, faster, and spark new ideas.”

This fits perfectly with the UAE’s National AI Strategy 2031, which aims to make the UAE a top player in AI by training people and boosting key industries.

Empowering DEWA Staff and Strategic Partnerships

Al Tayer promised that DEWA will stay on top of AI breakthroughs and give its workers the tools they need to keep up with this fast-changing field. By teaming up with big global tech companies, DEWA plans to train its staff in advanced AI skills. This will help them lead the way in the Fourth Industrial Revolution—the era of smart tech—while making work better, faster, and keeping customers and partners happy.

AI Tools Already in Action

At the GenAI Week exhibition, DEWA showed off some of the AI tools they’re already using as a starting point for this big change. One example is Rammas at Work, which helps with services in areas like power generation, water management, business growth, HR, billing, and legal stuff.

They’ve also added AI to their employee online portal called Khadamatech, as well as IT help, rule-following processes, and security rules. These AI upgrades are just the beginning of DEWA’s plan to become the world’s first fully AI-powered utility company.
