Chinese Journalist Wang Zhian Accused of Deception by Ex-Wife in Live Broadcast

Former CCTV journalist Wang Zhian has been publicly accused of deception and domestic abuse by his ex-wife, Li Ting, during an emotionally charged live broadcast that has since gone viral.

During the livestream on March 9, Li tearfully accused Wang of coercing her into divorce, claiming that he tricked her into moving to Japan only to pressure her into signing divorce papers just two months later. She also alleged that Wang had restricted her from maintaining an online presence, telling her that “a family cannot have two public figures.”

As the livestream continued, Wang Zhian suddenly appeared on camera, visibly agitated, and repeatedly shouted at Li to leave, at one point yelling, “Get out of my house!” The situation quickly escalated, with Wang calling the police while Li continued to plead her case in front of thousands of viewers.

Li further alleged that Wang had been physically abusive, recounting an incident at a postpartum care center in Beijing where she claimed he assaulted her in front of nurses while she was still recovering from childbirth. She also mentioned that police records exist documenting previous reports of abuse.

Background on Wang Zhian

Wang Zhian, a well-known investigative journalist, was previously affiliated with CCTV and The Beijing News before relocating to Japan in 2019 after facing online censorship in China. Since then, he has gained a significant following as an independent media commentator.

In early 2024, he made headlines again when Taiwan banned him from entering the country for five years following controversial remarks during a televised debate.

The live confrontation has ignited widespread debate on domestic abuse, power dynamics in public relationships, and the ethics of personal disputes being aired online. While Wang has not yet issued an official statement, legal experts suggest that if Li’s accusations are backed by evidence, Wang could face legal action in both Japan and China.
